Sex, Singlehood, and the Changing Time Table for Marriage
Recently, author/blogger Christin Taylor wrote up a piece about the shifting timetable of marriage in the twenty-first century, and how it can affect those who are trying to remain sexually abstinent until marriage. She raised some good points and ultimately posed the question of whether or not it truly is reasonable for young adults – who are on average waiting until their late twenties to get married – to avoid having sex until their wedding night.
Taylor’s blog post offers no answers, but plenty of questions to sort through and ruminate upon. She describes a place where a lot of Christians, especially young adults, can find themselves—both wanting to honor what their faith teaches about the sacred nature of sex within a marriage covenant, but also recognizing that they too are sexual beings and, wanting time to explore their own sexualities and desires.
